1652 OAK TREE SCHILLING. Accompanying the lot is a copy of the magazine “Western & Eastern Treasures” Annual Best Finds issue, vol. 36, April 2002. On page 43, the center article describes the finding of this coin with a metal detector above a beach on high ground where a Revolutionary War artillery battery had been placed. Earlier in the day a small cannonball had been found and only a few feet away this coin was found. It was highly oxidized and the owner cleaned the silver surface with baking soda paste and was able to reveal the sharp details beneath the oxidation. The coin is pictured in the article and is the coin that we are selling. CONDITION: Ungraded. 9-20505 (2,000-3,000)
