EXCEPTIONAL NEW HAMPSHIRE CARVED WALL BOX. Circa 1819. Haverhill, New Hampshire. This fine chip and pinwheel carved wall box, the back designed with lozenges, the front of the box designed with a central heart. SIZE: h. 15-1/2″ x w. 13-1/2″ x d. 4-1/2″ PROVENANCE: This item is accompanied by a letter from the original owner: “This knife box was carved by a 16 year old boy with a jack knife, and given to my great grandmother Lydia Heath when she and my great grandfather, Wells Goodwin were married on October 3, 1819 in Haverhill, N.H. by Grant Powers. Lois B. Gros” CONDITION: Very good original condition with rich brown color and exceptional patina. All carving remains crisp. The sides with nice wear. 9-99557 (5,000-10,000)
