RARE GODDESS OF LIBERTY FULL BODY COPPER WEATHERVANE. 3rd quarter, 19th century. Attributed to Cushing & White, Waltham, Massachusetts. with early gilt surfaces and light verdigris. This nice example depicting Lady Liberty displaying a flag with cinched details of waist, full-length dress with wavy, pleated accents. Note similar examples of detail work illustrated in “WEATHERVANES” BY Charles Klamkin, pp. 92 & 93. Offered on a museum stand. SIZE: 43″h x 28″l. PROVENANCE: From a private Maine collection. CONDITION: This vane appears to be untouched, without structural repair. The flag having a soft red field showing outlines of original gilding. Very good overall. 9-24701 (15,000-20,000)
