WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 EXPRESS LEVER ACTION RIFLE WITH BRITISH PROOFS. SN 76077. Cal. 50EX, 26″ round bbl with half magazine, fine bead front sight, 2 leaf express rear sight marked “100 & 200”. Top of bbl is marked “MANUFACTURED BY THE / WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.” Adjacent receiver top center “50EX”. Left side with 4 British proof marks with “CROWN V” adjacent left side receiver and top rear of bolt. Standard receiver mounted with straight grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip, crescent steel buttplate, standard forend with nose cap. Accompanied with Cody Firearms Museum Winchester letter identifying as rifle, 50-110 caliber, round bbl, plain trigger, shotgun butt. Received in warehouse February 25, 1893. Shipped from warehouse March 1, 1893 on order number 15010. Inspection of lower tang reveals assembly number “9S”. No number is visible on top tang. Rear of buttstock is stamped “N.C.R. / JAN. 67”. No number is found on rear of buttplate. Stock is also stamped behind lower tang “93/238”. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains 90-95% orig blue with minor muzzle wear, normal nicks & scratches and a couple of spots rubbed bright and blending with silver patina. Receiver retains 95% orig case colors, strong and bright on sides, thinning across bottom and top and sharp edges. Hammer shows thinning orig color blending with silver-gray patina. Lever shows strong orig colors on sides blending with dark patina on bottom. The top inside of loop is neatly marked “74.24.396” in small white numerals. Stock is sound with small chips on both sides of upper tang, repair crack on left side at upper tang, some minor nicks & scratches and retains an open grain oil finish. Forend is sound with numerous nicks, dings & shallow dents and retains an open grain oil finish. Mechanics are crisp with a bright shiny bore. 4-36879 BDT171 (10,000-15,000)
