FINE WATERCOLOR PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG LADY. Circa 1819, New Jersey. Portrait of Mary Henrietta D’Anterroche finely rendered depicting the then 18 year old girl in fancy empire lace collared dress. Her hair in ringlets before a drapery background. Housed in a period lemon gold frame. SIZE: Sight: 11-1/2″ x 9-3/4″. Overall: 17″ x 14-3/4″. PROVENANCE: On the back of the work taped to cardboard is the following: “This is a portrait of Mary Henrietta D’Anterroche at eighteen years of age. She was born September 24, 1791 and died January 8, 1873 in her 82nd year. Her mother was Mary Vanderpool of Chatham, New Jersey, and her father was Count Louis D’Anterroche, one of the French settlers here after the revolution in France, whose mother and… On May 25, 1817, she married Joseph Lyon who was born in London, England in 1780 and was a Colonel in the British army. He came to this country in 1816 and established himself in the shipping business in New York with his two brothers under the name of Lyon. She had two sons… and John F.
