MASSACHUSETTS HEPPLEWHITE PAINT DECORATED POLE SCREEN. Circa 1800, mahogany, Salem or North Shore. The shield form screen decorated with floral sprigs within a delicate painted border of leaf tips on a mustard ground. The screen mounted on a slender, tapering urn-turned shaft surmounted by original brass urn form finial. Raised on a spider leg tripod base, terminating in spade feet. SIZE: 51-1/2″ h. CONDITION: All surfaces original, very good overall condition, screen mounts have been repositioned and with losses of paint on rear of shield. For a similar example, see Dean A.
