WINCHESTER 1876 EXPRESS RIFLE. SN 42522. Cal. 50-95. 22″ rnd bbl with a bead front sight that is gunsmith altered to accept a sight hood, a sporting rear sight and a combination tang sight with coarsely knurled post. Bbl markings “WINCHESTER’S-REPEATING-ARMS. NEW HAVEN. CT. / KING’S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENT-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860.”. Button mag. Standard action with the dust cover marked “WINCHESTER EXPRESS / .50 CAL. 95 GRS.”. Straight grip rifle stock with steel shotgun butt and rifle forend of straight grain American walnut. PROVENANCE: Bruce M. Cady Estate Collection. CONDITION: Good. Bbl and receiver blue have a patina finish mixing with spots of light surface corrosion. Stock has a repaired chip on the right side at intersection of top tang and receiver and a splinter of wood missing on the right side along the lower tang. Forearm is sound. Wood has worn original finish with handling marks. Mechanics are sound with good bore. 4-36915 DS49 (4,000-7,000)
