RARE WINCHESTER 1876 NORTHWEST MOUNTED POLICE SADDLE RING CARBINE. SN 34715. Cal .45-75. 22″ Carbine bbl with post type front sight and special NWNP rear sight with graduation in meters. The bbl is marked “WINCHESTER’S-REPEATING-ARMS. NEW HAVEN CT/KING’S-IMPROVMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860”. Standard carbine receiver with saddle ring, top tang is marked “Model 1876”. Buttstock is a period of use replacement w/o NWNP marking. Full length carbine forend. PROVENANCE: Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter stating specifications as follows: Carbine/”April 8 Carbine NWP”/Received in the warehouse on April 8, 1885/with 398 other Model 1876s, order number 19819. CONDITION: Good overall. Metal surfaces have handling marks and widely scattered surface corrosion with an overall silver/gray patina appearance. Stock has small chip on the right side at the intersection of the receiver and top tang and a small crack below the intersection of the receiver and top tang. Forend has a sliver of wood missing on the left side forward of the receiver. Stock and forend are sanded and refinished having moderate/heavy handling marks.
