PERCY SANBORN (American, 1849-1929) “PORTRAIT OF THE THREE MAST SHIP LEONORA”. Unsigned oil on canvas scene shows the black-hulled ship sailing towards viewer from left to right with several men on deck. The ship is seen in full sail flying American flag and other flags. Another ship is seen off stern and a lighthouse with other boats can be seen off bow. Hand painted legend on bottom edge “Ship Leonora, Phineas Griffin, Master. Belfast, Maine, 1869″. Housed in what appears to be its original gilt molded wood frame. Note: Accompanying painting is an article by A.J. Peluso, Jr. with an entry and illustration of another painting by Sanborn of the Leonora. SIZE: 24″ x 18”. Overall: 28″ x 22-1/4″ CONDITION: Very good. 9-29385 (6,000-8,000)
