EXCEPTIONAL POLYCHROME PAINTED PARCHEESI GAME BOARD. Second half 19th century, New England, poplar wood. Rendered in vibrant blue, red and yellow on a blue field with black borders. Reverse titled “The Interesting Game of PARCHESIE (sic)” and additional faint inscription “Property of the Woods Family for Entertainment Only” in red script paint. Also in black paint within a bracket is a column of six family names; first three indistinct, last three “Jerome”, “Calib” and “Audrey”. Bracket to the right “THE WOODS”. Final inscription very faint in black paint reads “try to keep this parchesie (sic) board”. SIZE: 20″ square x 1″ thick. CONDITION: Overall very good with minor age appropriate wear and with old varnished paint surfaces. 9-24154 (2,500-3,500)
