TWO SCRIMSHAW TEETH AND A FRAMED AMBROTYPE. 20th century, American. 1) Scrimmed with a military officer on horseback brandishing a sword, beneath the slogan “JOIN or DIE” beneath the image of a segmented serpent. 2) With elaborate scrimming depicting a lady in long dress beneath trees holding flowers. The reverse scrimmed with four panels scrimmed with a butterfly, two hearts pierced by an arrow, an anchor posed with three harpoons, and a peacock. 3) An 18th century ambrotype depicting a bearded sailor in cap, mounted within a later bone frame scrimmed with vinery, the border scrimmed “N. BURKS. HARPOONER OF THE WHALING BARK KATHLEEN 1884″. SIZE: 1) 6-1/2″ l. 2) 5-1/4″ l. 3) 4″ x 3-1/2”. PROVENANCE: From a private Utah collection. CONDITION: 1) With shrinkage cracks and old damage to unscrimmed side. Otherwise with very nice polished surfaces. 2) Well polished with uniform staining and old age cracks.
