ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN (American, 1850-1921) PORTRAIT OF THE PILOT BOAT “FANNIE”. Large oil on canvas portrait of the two-mast New York Harbor Pilot boat “Fannie” sailing right to left in full sail with seven men aboard. U.S. flag flies along with ship’s pennant, along with a large “17” on back sail. A large three-mast tall ship is seen off the bow and two-stack steamer off stern. Seven other boats can be seen on the horizon. Light & dark blue sea with white wave tips. Signed lower right “Antonio Jacobsen 1896” and inscribed “31 Palisade Av. West Hoboken, NJ”. Housed in its original gesso decorated gilt frame which has losses. REFERENCE: Page 120 & 121, No. 15 in Antonio Jacobsen, The Checklist.
