RARE SCRIMSHAW TUSK OF MERCURY ON ICE SKATES. Circa 1880. The large walrus tusk scrimmed with the unusual figure of a female Mercury carrying a caduceus in her left hand wearing a winged helmet and winged ice skates. Also attired in a short sleeve blouse and short pants decorated with polychrome stars. SIZE: 18″ l. PROVENANCE: From a private Utah collection. CONDITION: Tusk with well polished surfaces and multiple vertical shrinkage cracks commensurate with age, mellow patina. Very good. 9-90381 (2,000-3,000)
