AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE CARVED MAHOGANY BALL AND CLAW FOOT SIDE CHAIR. Last quarter 18th-century. Probably Philadelphia. The serpentine crestrail carved with a central foliate cartouche, the rolled and molded ears continuing to stiles centering a pierce-carved back splat further centering a pair of carved acorns, above the trapezoidal seat frame fitted with a conforming slip seat. The chair raised on frontal cabriole legs with fan-carved knees terminating in ball and claw feet. The rounded rear legs backswept with canted corners. SIZE: h. of back 39-1/2″ h. of seat 17- 1/2″ CONDITION: Professionally cleaned and re polished with cosmetic repair to backsplat at crest rail otherwise very good. 9-20055 (3,000-5,000)
