FINE SCRIMSHAW TUSK. Circa 1880, Western Pacific. Scrimmed with figure of a lady in fashion gown beneath crossed harpoons and anchor. The reverse scrimmed with clipper ship flying an American flag, beneath a displayed eagle clutching the great seal of the United States. Together with a cluster of arrows. A banner reading “FREE TRADE” in its beak. SIZE: 8-3/4″ l. Greatest cir: 7″. PROVENANCE: The Lahaina Whaling Museum, Maui, Hawaii. CONDITION: Very good with fine age cracks and with rich patina.
