ANTONIO NICOLO GASPARO JACOBSEN (American, 1850-1921) PORTRAIT OF THE STEAMSHIP “MADISON”. Oil on academy board. Portrait of the single-stack black-hulled two deck steamship sailing right to left with figures towards bow and stern. US flag on flagpole at stern, ship flag at center mast and company pennant “O.D.” (Old Dominion Steamship Company) also at central mast. The ship’s name on bow and above wheelhouse. Signed “A. Jacobsen 1913”, bottom right. Housed in a black painted oak frame. Note: Possibly No.4 on pg.191 of the book “Antonio Jacobsen: the checklist” SIZE: 16″ x 28″. Overall: 18-1/2″ x 30-1/2″ PROVENANCE: Acquired directly from the artist as a wedding gift to our consignor’s parents. CONDITION: Unrestored with surface dirt, some small blackened chips 9-28435 (5,000-8,000)
