CUSTOM ENGRAVED WINCHESTER 2ND MODEL 1866 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. SN 20685. Cal. 44RF, 24-1/4″ oct bbl, full magazine, modified German silver rocky mountain front sight, standing blade semi-buck horn V-notch rear sight. Top flat of bbl is marked “WINCHESTER’S-REPEATING-ARMS NEW HAVEN. CT. / KING’S-IMPROVEMENT-PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860”. Standard receiver that has been custom engraved with foliate arabesque scrolls with punch dot background. Circle on left sideplate with feeding buck deer, right side with alert buck deer. Mounted with straight grain walnut, uncheckered straight grip, brass crescent buttplate with trap door, tang with foliate scroll with punch dot background, inlet base with modified swivel 5-1/4″ from toe and standard forend, brass nose cap with sling eye and swivel. Inspection of top tang channel of stock reveals legible number “6” with other numbers not discernible. Inside toe of buttplate is stamped with “685”. CONDITION: Good to Very Good. Bbl and magazine tube retain an even dark brown patina, bright on sharp edges and some normal nicks & scratches. Receiver polished years ago, slightly rounded edges and retains a mellow brass patina with sharp engraving. Stock is sound with small crack off right side of top tang, some normal nicks & dings and retains an old, restored finish blended with hand-worn patina. Forend is sound with expected nicks, dings & dents and retains a hand-worn patina with traces of an old, restored finish. Mechanics are good, dark bore with distinct rifling and scattered shallow pitting. 4-40945 BDT239 (5,000-7,000)
