With the signature of Tobias Lear and the date 1785 to the title page. Missing the front free fly leaf. Many folding tables, bright and fine. Small 8vo full polished calf, crown chipped, tight and sound but a bit rough. Benjamin Lincoln Lear bookplate. WITH: A rough copy of ERASMUS’ SELECT COLLOQUIES. Published in London, 1766. In Latin and English. Laid in: “this book presented to Tobias Lear by Geo Washington (documented)”. Signed by Tobias Lear on the rear free fly and dated 1733. With Volumes III and IV (of four) of THE NAVAL HISTORY OF GREAT BRITAIN. London: 1758. Folding map of Africa by Kitchin (foxed, small tear). The map of North America with heavy damage. 12mo, full leather, crowns and spines chipped. WITH: THE ELEMENTS OF CRITICISM (Volume II only). A rough copy, signed twice by Tobias Lear. WITH: Tooke, W. HISTORY OF RUSSIA. London: Strahan 1800. Two volumes, 8vo, full leather in difficult condition with the front board of Volume I almost detached. All four plates present. The folding map foxed, but complete without major tears. The Smith, Tooke, and Erasmus titles cited in the list of “Catalogue of Books received from Washington” found in this estate and sold as Lot 2135.
