VERY RARE U.S SURCHARGED FRENCH MUSKET. Cal 77. NSN. 42-3/8″ part oct bbl with French proof marks on upper left quarter panel. The lockplate is marked with the early St. Etienne proof mark above “I _ GIRARD” in front of the cock. “UNITED:STATES” is branded on the right side of the butt and “U_STATES” is branded on the bottom of the stock in front of the triggerguard which has a bulbous finial. CONDITION: Rust/brown patina overall. Wood has normal dents and dings with initials carved on both sides. It is cracked through the rear lock screw. Ramrod is probably a replacement.
