RARE REMINGTON BEALS 1ST MODEL 2ND ISSUE PERCUSSION REVOLVER WITH ORIGINAL BOX. Cal. 31. SN 67. Blued finish, German silver triggerguard, casehardened hammer, 3” oct bbl with two line Beals’ marking, &”REMINGTON S / ILION. N. Y.” on the top strap. 1-pc gutta percha bag grips, dovetail blade German silver front sight. This gun came from the estate of Maj. Gen. Henry L. Abbott. It was found in its orig cardboard box with orig supplied tools, flask & orig instruction sheet. Abbot was appointed Colonel of the 1st regiment Connecticut Heavy Artillery in 1863 and served through the end of the war, including the sieges at Petersburg & Richmond. He was appointed Brevet Major General after the Civil War in honor oh his “gallant meritorious service during the war”. It also contained a note in Abbott’s handwriting stating “Loaded – handle with discretion”. This note is included in the lot. This same revolver was pictured on the front cover of Gun Report, April 2001 (included in lot). Accompanied by orig 2-pc brown marbleized cardboard box compartmented for and containing a ball & star pistol flask typical to this pistol, loading tool, brass 2-ball bullet mold, cleaning rod & rarely seen nipple pick. The orig instruction sheet is also included. There is also a file of information about Maj. Gen. Abbott compiled by the consignor. CONDITION: Fine overall with 80% blue thinning on grip straps & mixed with spots of surface rust & flaking. 75% casehardening colors remain on hammer, worn on both sides at the bottom. Grip has minor scratches & chips at the bottom. Bore is good. Mechanically fine. Box is fine with minor scuffs on the corners. Accessories are also fine. 4-59449 JH67 (3,500-5,000)
