WOUTER VERSCHUUR (Dutch, 1812-1874) A QUARRY HAUL. Outstanding oil on large mahogany panel scene shows three large work horses pulling a two-wheel wood cart laden with large quarry rocks. A man is leading the team while another walks beside the cart. The cart is being pulled across a shallow river with a double arch stone bridge behind. Several horses and people cross the bridge and a woman and boy look on with their dog. Mountains with castle and town are seen beyond the bridge. Signed lower right “W. Verschuur”. Mahogany panel has a lattice work backing in oak. Housed in a good gesso decorated gilt replacement frame. SIZE: 27″ x 39-1/2″. CONDITION: Surface dirt, the colorful sky will be enhanced with a cleaning, discolored varnish. Very good. Appears to have some inpainting along edges where old frame met the painting. 9-91801 (20,000-30,000)
