RARE REMINGTON MODEL #4 AMERICAN BOY SCOUT SINGLE SHOT RIFLE WITH BAYONET & HANG TAG. Cal. 22 Short. SN 8601. Only made in the year 1913, before Boy Scouts of America came into existence. It has 28” rnd bbl with musket type forend fastened by sgl bbl band. It has stud for knife type bayonet, two sling swivels, stacking swivel, & smooth steel buttplate. It has v-notch rear sight and standard front sight. It is “AMERICAN BOY SCOUT” marked on the left side of receiver and accompanied by an original 1913 hang tag. It is also accompanied by a rare, orig bayonet with 7” blade & orig leather sheath. For further information refer to James Grant’s Boys Single Shot Rifles which has a copy of the letter making this the official American Boy Scout rifle, (not to be confused with today’s Boy Scouts of America). Bayonet & scabbard are shown in Remington 1913 catalogue. CONDITION: Fine. Bbl retains about 90% strong orig blue with some thinning toward the muzzle. Receiver retains most of its orig case colors moderately faded and turning dark. Screws are slightly battered. Wood is sound with minor storage and handling marks and retains most of its orig hand rubbed oil finish. Mechanics are fine. Strong dark bore with moderate pitting. Bayonet has a lightly sharpened blade and the metal handle moderately pitted with a dark brown patina. Sheath & belt loop are fine with some light staining. 4-59367 JH17 (2,000-3,000)
