GREENER BEST QUALITY BOXLOCK DAMASCUS DOUBLE BARREL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 40173. Beautiful high grade Greener with 30” bbls choked FULL/FULL with tapered, concave, smooth rib, sgl bead with Greener cross bolt rib extension. Rib is marked with maker’s name & address along with “WINNER AT THE LONDON GUN TRIALS 1875, 1877, 1878 & 1879”, then is succeeded by a Berlin address. Mounted with very nicely figured, streaky, French walnut with full checkered, horn tipped, splinter forearm & diamond wrist, Prince of Wales rnd knob stock with black horn diamonds inlaid at back of side panels. It is 14-3/8” over a diamond checkered butt with engraved heel & toe plates. It has a blank silver initial oval on bottom with sling loops. Left side panel has a Greener thumb safety with “SAFE” in gold. Receiver, with its beautifully sculpted, scalloped fences is very nicely engraved with about 75-80% coverage very fine foliate arabesque patterns with maker’s name on each side. Trigger guard is engraved to match & is inscribed at the tang end “WILLIAM NORTHROP / NEW YORK, CITY”. Bore diameter: left – .737, right – .735. Bore restrictions: left – .039, right – .040. Wall thickness: left – .030, right – .036. Drop at heel: 2-1/4”, drop at comb: 1-1/2”. Weight: 7 lbs. 14.08 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, as restored. Bbls retain a light brown Damascus pattern, somewhat thinned over chamber & forearm areas. Receiver retains all of its beautiful Turnbull restored case colors with thumb lever & trigger guard retaining about all of their beautiful restored blue. Stock has a hairline back of top tang, otherwise wood is sound showing moderate wear with a small bruise or two on right side and a factory filled flaw & retains about all of a beautiful hand rubbed oil finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bores with a few scattered spots of light pitting. 4-59255 JR544 (4,000-6,000)
