*RARE & SPECTACULAR CHARLES DALY FEATHERWEIGHT REGENT DIAMOND GRADE DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 1983. The most rare of all the Charles Daly shotguns is the Regent Diamond model. This spectacular shotgun is built on what appears to be a 20 ga. frame with 26-1/8″ bbls choked FULL/MOD. It has a tapered, slightly concave, hand matted rib with dbl ivory beads and is marked “CHARLES DALY REGENT DIAMOND QUALITY” in gold toward the chamber end. It has dbl lump with extension and Greener cross bolt. The bbls are each marked “Witten Excelsior Steel” in a crest. It has the Lindner mark on the bottom of the bbls, “HAL” over crossed pistols. It has dbl triggers and ejectors and 2-3/4″ chambers. The boxlock receiver is small and rounded with stepped sides and dbl scalloped back edge. The water table is marked “PRUSSIA” in two places. It is most wonderfully engraved with spectacular intertwined arabesque patterns and very deep relief scallop shell fences with a small scallop recess at the top. The sides of the receiver have an oval vignette of three raised gold flying partridge on the left side, four flying ducks on the right side, a large flying, quacking duck and a crown on the bottom with two flying raised gold woodcock on the trigger bow. The backgrounds for all these vignettes are marvelously detailed with a stippled background. The opening lever, top tang, forend iron and balance of the trigger guard are engraved to match. The engraving extends 3-5/8″ up over the chamber areas and consists of deep relief foliate & floral patterns with extremely fine arabesque scrolls. The rib has about 8-1/4″ of engraving. It also has gold washed cocked indicators on the receiver and “SAFE” in gold on the top tang. The wood is wonderfully grained French walnut with fleur-de-lis carved and checkered ebony tipped forearm with round knob semi-pistol grip stock, 14″ over a leather covered pad. The wrist and grip are extensively checkered with raised, carved, tapered fleur-de-lis side panels that have fish scale carving around the inner borders with extremely fine checkering in the center. Drop at the heel 3”, drop at the comb 1-11/16”. Weight 5 lbs, 12.2 oz.CONDITION: Extremely fine plus, the bbls retain virtually all of their very fine bright rust blue. The receiver retains virtually all of its subtle case colors with some very minor brightness around the front edge. The top and bottom tangs are mostly a silver metal color. The wood is sound with a minor nick or two and retains virtually all of its beautiful hand rubbed oil finish. There is one minor bruise in the checkering on the wrist and two mashed diamonds on the forearm, otherwise the checkering shows extremely minor diamond point wear. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bores. One of the most elaborate Charles Daly’s ever produced. 4-53695 JR1018 (17,500-27,500)
