*SCARCE J. WOODWARD & SONS DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 6345. Fine English sidelock dbl with bbls reduced to 25″, choked CYL/CYL. They have a smooth tapered concave rib with single silver bead and have the maker’s name and address near the chamber end along with “Made of Sir Joseph Whitworth’s Fluid Pressed Steel”. There is a gold “2” near the breech end with a corresponding number on the opening lever and on the tip of the forearm. The top tang has “SAFE” in gold. The receiver, lockplates, opening lever, trigger guard and forend iron are wonderfully engraved in fine intertwined foliate arabesque patterns. Each lockplate is engraved with the maker’s name in a small panel and it has gold line cocked indicators. The bosses are triple scalloped with side clips and engraving down in the scallops. The engraving extends about an inch up the rib. The screw heads are all engraved and the safety has very fine checkering with a small panel that covers “SAFE” when it is pushed forward. It has assisted opening and is fitted with single non-selective trigger and ejectors. The wood is very nicely figured French walnut with a thin, flat bottomed splinter forearm and raised teardrop side panels on the straight stock which is 13-5/8″ over an Old English pad. Drop at the heel 2-1/8”, drop at the comb 1-7/16”, Weight 6 lbs, 4.0 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, the barrels, as noted, retain most of a fine professional English re-blacking with some thinning about the carry point over the forearm. The receiver and lockplates retain traces of case colors in the very sheltered areas with the balance turned silver. The wood is sound with minor nicks and scratches and retains most of a fine professional finish. Mechanics are fine, brilliant shiny bores. This would make an outstanding quail or woodcock gun. 4-53672 JR1017 (3,000-5,000)
