*FINE PURDEY DBL BBL SHOTGUN 2-BBL SET. Cal. 12 ga. SN 16090. Spectacular set with rounded frame 28″ original bbls choked IMP-MOD (.021)/IMP-CYL (.008) and more recent made 25″ original Purdey bbls choked MOD (.013)/IMP-CYL (.004). Both bbls have 2-3/4″ chambers with the 28″ bbls proofed 1-1/8 oz. and the 25″ bbls proofed 3-1/4 tons. Both bbls are chopper lump with ejectors. The 28″ bbls have a tapered smooth concave rib with silver bead and the 25″ bbls have a raised matted rib with dbl beads. The 28″ bbls are marked on the rib with the maker’s name & address while the 25″ bbls have gold inlay maker’s name & address on the bbls and a fine gold line at the chamber end. The breech face of both sets of bbls is machine turned. The receiver and lockplates are beautifully engraved with extremely fine English rose & scroll patterns with. The lockplates have gold-plated cocked indicators, gold internal appointments and gold plated triggers. The forearm latch & ejector hammers are also gold plated and it has “SAFE” in gold on the top tang. The wood is highly figured honey & chocolate French walnut with checkered splinter forearm and straight stock, 14-1/4″ over a checkered butt. It has raised teardrop side panels. The bottom of the stock is inlaid with a fine Ken Hunt engraved oval medallion with two flying woodcock and the name “Witham” in a ribbon on the bottom and a beautiful decorative border. Drop at the heel 1 7/8”, drop at the comb 1-1/8”. Weight with 28″ bbls 6 lbs, 2.4 oz; weight with 25″ bbls 6 lbs, 3.0 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. 28″ bbls retain about all of a fine restored blue finish (probably by Purdeys) and the 25″ bbls retain most of their original blue finish with some fine, light scratches on the right bbl near the muzzle and at about mid-point. Receiver and lockplates retain 60-70% faded original case colors with the balance turned silver. Trigger guard retains most of its fine glossy blue finish. Wood is sound with the buttstock retaining about all of its fine Purdey’s oil finish with three or four tiny bruises and a couple of scratches on the butt. Forearm retains most of its very dark, original oil finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bores. 4-53713 JR1002 (19,000-29,000)
