*WONDERFUL CASED PAIR OF PURDEY BEST QUALITY DBL BBL SHOTGUNS. Cal. 12 ga. SN 12406 & 12407. Fine sidelock shotguns with 29-15/16″ bbls choked FULL/FULL. Gun #1 left .014 and right .014. Gun #2 left .014 and right .016. They have smooth tapered concave ribs and single silver beads engraved with the maker’s name and address at the chamber end along with “MADE OF SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH’S FLUID PRESSED STEEL”. They have dbl lump with ejectors and dbl triggers. The bbl flats are Nitro proofed 1-1/8 oz. The receivers and lockplates are beautifully engraved with extremely fine English rose & scroll patterns with about 80% coverage. The lockplates have cocked indicators and the maker’s name on each side and they have gold plated triggers. The ribs, opening levers and forend iron all have a gold “1” or “2”. The opening lever, top tang, trigger guard and forend iron are engraved to match the receiver and the top tang has “SAFE” in gold. Both shotguns appear to be re-wooded in beautiful streaky and marble cake English walnut with checkered splinter forearms and pistol grip stocks, 14-1/2″ over serrated horn buttplates. The stocks have raised teardrop side panels and hornet grip caps. Both stocks have identical dimensions of 2″ drop at the heel and 1-3/8″ drop at the comb with slight cast off. Gun #1 weighs 6 lbs. 12.1 oz. and gun #2 weighs 6 lbs. 10.0 oz. Accompanied by an original Abercrombie & Fitch English style 2-gun casing chocolate leather exterior and maroon felt lined interior with the initials “CMK” on the top. CONDITION: Both shotguns are identical condition retaining virtually all of their fine restored finish on the metal with fine rust blue on the bbls and typical English case colors on the receiver and lockplates. Wood retains about all of its fine hand rubbed oil finish with only one or two very small, very light, handling & storage marks. Mechanics on gun #1 are a little stiff, # 2 is fine.
