BLACK PANZER UNIFORM IDENTIFIED TO LIEUTENANT GENERAL HARRY HOPPE, COMMANDER OF THE INFANTRY DIVISION 278. Hoppe was awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Hohenzollern House Order for service in World War I, the Knight’s Cross and Oak Leaves and the German Cross in gold for service in World War II. This is an unusual uniform for a Lt. Gen. of Infantry, but the group includes a picture of Hoppe as a prisoner of war wearing a black Panzer tunic. A tailor’s label “WORDA INNSBRUCK” is attached to the inner back of the jacket. The general’s collar tabs are bright and are sewn to the lapels. Keyhole stitching of the buttonholes is consistent with the World War II period. The silver Wound badge, the silver Infantry Assault badges, Iron Cross 1st Class and Spange are are all medals which Hoppe won but these are not his actual medals rather thay are collector added. The Panzer-style trousers are well made and all closure and suspender buttons bear the mark of “Josef Worda Innsbruck. Included with the uniform is information on Hoppe and an Osprey book, The Panzer Divisions, showing Panzer uniforms. CONDITION: Uniform is in excellent condition. 4-60329 (12,500-17,500)
