RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-75. SN 57885. Standard grade rifle with 28″ oct bbl, full magazine, uncheckered wood with straight stock and crescent butt with trap. The stock and forend cap have factory style sling swivels. It is fitted with single set trigger and the bbl has the rare platinum line 7-leaf express sight and a Beach’s front sight. The express sight appears to be a factory installation as the caliber marking is offset onto the left flat. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this rifle as “Express Caliber” and indicating shipment on November 17, 1888. It further states that the rifle was “returned by ECMACO” and reshipped September 19, 1894. No indication of why it was returned. CONDITION: Fine, the bbl and magazine tube retain about 75% thin original blue turning brown. The receiver retains 75-80% thin original blue turning brown. The lever retains traces of case colors with the balance turned silver and the hammer 50-60% thin case colors. The wood is sound with moderate nicks and scratches and retains most of an amateur refinish. Mechanics are fine, strong bore with some shine and light to moderate pitting. 4-52333 JR759 (6,000-10,000)
