*ENGRAVED DELUXE WINCHESTER LIGHT WEIGHT MODEL 1886 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 33 WCF. SN 128283. Blue finish with 24″ tapered rnd bbl, half magazine, pedestal mounted ivory bead hunting front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. The wood is beautifully figured center crotch cut sunburst American walnut, carved and checkered in “F” style with capped pistol grip stock and crescent buttplate. The receiver is engraved in No. 10 style with Ulrich style patterns consisting of a large round vignette of a walking white tail buck in a meadow scene with trees in the background surrounded by light arabesque patterns and scalloped border on the left side. The right side is engraved with light arabesque patterns, a sunflower around the loading gate screw and scalloped borders. There is a small flourish of engraving over the front receiver ring, behind the hammer and the bottom of the receiver. This is a fairly simple engraving pattern but seldom found on the later rifles. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this rifle with “$2.00” engraving and indicating shipment on March 8, 1905. The letter states that it was shipped with “plain wood”, “checkered stock with pistol grip” and that it had shotgun belt. CONDITION: About fine. Bbl retains 92-94% original blue with muzzle wear and thinning on the sides of the bbl and a touched up spot about mid point. Magazine tube retains most of its original factory blue with a silver/gray cap. Receiver retains about 60% original blue, mostly on the sides with silver/gray top and bottom, strong bright blue in sheltered areas. Wood is sound with light nicks and scratches, showing moderate to heavy wear on the checkering and retains most of a fine professionally restored finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-53494 (17,500-20,000)
