SCARCE WINCHESTER 1ST MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 2487. Standard grade rifle with 24-1/4″ rnd bbl, half nickel front sight and a first type semi-buckhorn flat top rear sight. It has mortised, raised thumbprint dust cover and nicely figured wood with straight stock and crescent buttplate with trap that contains a 4-piece brass & iron original wiping rod. CONDITION: Good to very good, no original finish remains with all the iron being a mottled dark patina mixed with spots of moderate rust. The right sideplate and side of the receiver have slightly heavier rust. The wood is sound and retains most of an old refinish. The butt stock has numerous small grain checks. Mechanics are fine, strong dark bore with a ring about mid-point and another near the muzzle. 4-53575 JR891 (3,000-5,000)
