1ST MODEL WINCHESTER DELUXE MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 25779. Rare special order rifle with 24-1/4″ oct bbl, button magazine, half nickel front sight and early, short, semi-buckhorn rear sight with checkered edges. The receiver has a mortised recessed thumb print dust cover and set trigger. It has about 3X American walnut wood with early style checkering and straight wrist with crescent butt and trap that contains an original 4-piece brass & iron wiping rod. Accompanied by a Cody FirearmsMuseum letter identifying this rifle with oct bbl and case-colored receiver, checkered stock and set tirgger and indicates that it was shipped October 18, 1877. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbl retains about 95% original blue, slightly thin and dull over the forearm area. Receiver and sideplates retain most of their original case colors, mostly faded with some brilliant colors in the very sheltered areas. Dust cover and top of the receiver also retain most of their faded case colors. Lever retains 60-70% faded case colors and the hammer about 95% bright colors. Forend cap also retains fading case colors. Wood is sound showing light wear and retains most of a very old light touch up finish and has a couple of small bruises on the wrist. Set trigger screw is broken or missing, otherwise mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore with a spot or two of very light pitting. 4-51547 JR772 (10,000-20,000)
