BROWN BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 58 CF. SN none visible. Unusual rifle with 34” rnd bbl, Enfield style sights and Enfield style stock with brass nosecap and 3 Enfield bands, one of which is marked “PRESTON”. The original stock appears to have been from a muzzle loading Enfield rifle and now has had the lockplate cut out and left side laminated over with thin wood panels. It has brass trigger guard and buttplate with sling wires and iron ramrod. This specimen is completely unmarked and is in centerfire while most of the reported examples have been 58 rimfire caliber. CONDITION: Very good. Iron retains a smooth, even, dark brown patina with traces of original bright finish around the bbl chamber. Brass has a very dark patina. Stock has a hairline crack in the left wrist. Otherwise appears sound and retains most of an old oil finish. Mechanics are fine. Bright shiny bore. 4-52212 JR59 (1,000-2,000)
