*LOT OF TWO M1 GARANDS. Cal. 30. 1) Springfield. SN 3048793. 24” bbl. This is a very nice but used example of a 1944 vintage Garand. Rifle appears to be orig with the exception of the op-rod is a field modified revision “6” and the lower band assembly being refinished, but correct for the rifle. CONDITION: Receiver is orig finish though turning brown form extensive use with correct rear sight assembly and internal parts. Bbl is dated “7-44” which is correct & orig for this rifle. Gas cylinder/front sight assembly also turning color, most probably from storage in Cosmoline. Stock is in exceptional condition, though the “SA” over “GAW” cartouche is very faint. Circle “P” is prominent and there is also a small crossed cannon on heel of pistol grip, although faint. Hand guards are in good condition with rear hand guard having numerous dings & nicks. Front hand guard is in excellent condition. Bore is strong but with light frosting throughout. Mechanics are excellent. 2) Springfield. SN 6091302. 24” bbl. This rare & desirable M1 presents as new and is at the very end of production/May 1956. This was the last year and within the last couple of months of the end of production of the M1 rifle and this one appears to be untouched. Rifle has a “77” nomenclature and “NM” marked op-rod but could very well be correct as most of these 6 million guns were National Matches. A 6 million service rifle is indeed a rare commodity. CONDITION: Rifle presents as new. Metal retains nearly 100% of its orig finish including buttplate. Wood presents as new, although there is an armory repair or insert just in front of the buttplate, approximately 1” wide and 3” high, but gives the appearance of a typical armory repair as they threw very little away. “DOD” stamp is present and very prominent, as is circle “P” on pistol grip. There are no dents, dings, mars or any other marks on wood except for repair on front of buttplate. 4-58237 BK5 (2,500-4,500)
