LLOYD THOMAS (American, Early 20th Century) “ABNER COBURN”. Outstanding carved wood and painted relief ship portrait of the Abner Coburn in full sail coming towards viewer through light wavy sea, eight porpoises riding the bow wave. The ship is relief carved with a carved sea, black painted bottom border with ships name. Painting is signed lower right “L.H. Thomas Apres CRP”. The Abner Coburn was built by William Rogers in 1882. The ship was named after the thirteenth Governor of Maine. Housed in a black and gold molded wood frame. SIZE: 17-3/4” x 22”. CONDITION: Surface grime, generally very good.
