*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1922 M-2. Cal. 22. SN 18416. This is a nice example of a 1922 M-2 that is good enough for the best of collections but still very desirable to shoot. This gun does have one minor oddity which I could find no information on. It appears that there was a flaw in the roll die while stamping the receiver as the right hand side of all the lettering “Springfield” “Armory” and “M-2” appeared to be rolled out very lightly. Gun’s receiver does not appear to show any signs of being refinished or b-blasted. I can only assume it was a problem with the die. The “IELD” in “Springfield”, the “Y” in “Armory”, and the “M-2” are stamped very light, and it appears the “2” has been re-stamped by hand. CONDITION: Receiver retains 98% of what appears to be the orig gray/green Parkerizing. Lyman 48 receiver sight is in perfect condition. Type-3 bolt is polished and numbered to the gun and is in excellent condition. Bbl and front band retain approx. 95% of a slightly darker Parkerizing which is very common as these actions finished before they were assembled. Bbl date is “4-42”. Buttstock is in fine condition with no significant dings or mars, and nice sharp finger grooves, as well as a horseshoe box on the left cheek piece containing the letters “SA” over “R”. Circle “P” on the pistol grip is also very prominent and shows very little wear. No-trap, coarse checkered buttplate shows 98% of the orig finish. Rifle is equipped with a WWI period sling. Mechanically fine and a slightly leaded, bright bore that can use just a little bit of elbow grease. Edwards Collection 4-58531 BK35 (900-1,200)
