* MAUSER MODEL 66 DIPLOMAT BOLT ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 243. SN G27562. Beautiful modern Mauser with sliding breech action, 20-1/2″ tapered rnd bbl, ramp mounted interchangeable caterpillar front sight missing the hood with short quarter rib that has a folding leaf sight with claw mounts. The chamber area of the bbl is marked “ORIGINAL” and has the Mauser banner. It also has the date “2 71”. The sliding breech is coin finished and has deep Germanic engraving of a bull red stag and hind on the left side with a running raebuck and doe on the right side. Both vignettes are then completely covered in mountain meadow scenes with a small flourish of foliate arabesque patterns. It has dbl set triggers, a checkered bolt knob and a foliate pattern engraved trigger guard. It is mounted in a 1-piece full length, Mannlicher style, walnut stock with plain forend tip and pistol grip with heavy Germanic style cheek piece, 14-3/8″ over a White Line waffle pad. The grip cap has a metal insert marked “ORIGINAL” with the Mauser banner. It has sling loops on the butt & forestock and a silver initial plate engraved with the initials “T.E.R.Y.”. It is accompanied by its original green canvas & leather, maroon felt lined trunk case with compartments for the rifle, a cleaning rod and a Zeiss 1.5-6X scope with claw mounts to fit the rifle. It also has an original European leather sling. The case has a leather panel on the lid embossed with the initials “T.E.R.Y.” CONDITION: Extremely fine, may have been fired, but if so, very little. Retains virtually all of its fine original factory finish to both metal & wood with the only perceptible wear are some light mars on the scope bases, breech rails and bolt. Wood has a few very minor, very scattered handling & use nicks & scratches and retains virtually all of its original oil finish. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. Case shows light wear and very light soil with moderate fading on the outside, otherwise is extremely fine. 4-53693 JR1054 (3,500-6,000)
