*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903 “T” RIFLE. Cal. 30. SN 1264385. This rifle represents the “T” type, 1922 rifle that Springfield Armory offered through their NRA sales program. It meets all the criteria for this type of heavy bbl target rifle, but we are unable to confirm with any source its authenticity. The bolt has a headless cocking piece. It is equipped with a Lyman 48 receiver sight, scope blocks mounted to the bbl for the A-5 Winchester telescope that was sometimes used (but not provided), an altered 1917 Enfield type front bbl band and a Browning Automatic Rifle front sight base. CONDITION: Rifle retains some 98% blue to the receiver and rear sight assembly and approx. 90% to the heavy 24” bbl with some slight pin prick pitting starting to develop throughout the exterior of the bbl. Front sight base retains about 60% of the blue and the stand 03 front sight insert retains approx 90%. Front bbl band retains approx 20% of the blue, primarily in protected areas with the balance turning plum. Buttstock is the non-finger grooved 1922 variety that was pretty standard on these rifles with a prominent circle “P”. Buttstock has been cut and then re-stretched approx. 1 1/2” and retains a 1922 crescent buttplate. Trigger guard assembly retains about 85% of a plum finish with rust starting to develop where the front mounting screw is. Floorplate retains approx. 90% blue and is also just starting to rust around where the hinge is towards the front. 1) Rifle is one of 79 manufactured. Refer to page 114 of Brophy’s book. Rifle is also equipped with a leather sling. 4-58247 (7,500-12,500)
