*SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1903 A1 NATIONAL MATCH “U.S.M.C. SNIPER”. Cal. 30. SN 1524678. This rifle has a bbl date of “3-39” which is at the tail end of production for the Springfield ’03 A1 National Matches. Bbl is star gauged with correct star gauge number underneath the wood. The polished nickel steel bolt is numbered to the gun and the Unertl U.S.M.C. scope has the correct mounts and bases on it. A Vaver micrometer sight has been added to this gun. Springfield rear site leaf is not present. CONDITION: Bbl action retains 98% of the orig matte gray Parkerizing of that period with bright shiny bore. Front band is Parkerized where the middle band is blue (also typical of that era), both in excellent condition retaining 90% of their finish. Triggerguard and floorplate assembly retain approx. 85% with the prominent wear being on the front of the floorplate. Coarse checkered buttplate with trap is also in excellent condition. Buttstock is a C Stock in excellent condition with no visible cartouche or inspection stamp present. Upper hand guard has not been heavily modified and still retains the entire sighting groove which is not common but acceptable. These hand guards were all individually made at the Philadelphia Ordinance Depot, so there are no 2 exactly alike. (There was no jig for doing this.) U.S.M.C. scope has approx. 90% of its orig finish, although it appears that the front scope ring has been refinished (which is also common because they were an alloy and the finish tended to flake off). Telescope has excellent optics and the mica scope can is in excellent condition with the spring assembly intact. Vaver sight retains all of its finish. 4-58351 BK21 (4,500-8,500)
