*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1903 (HOFFER THOMPSON GALLERY PRACTICE RIFLE). Cal. 22. SN 474516. This 1920 updated rifle has the “22” stamped on the bridge of the receiver. No markings on the front of the stock or bayonet log. Specimens have been observed with some of the markings, but not all of them, but deemed to be correct rifles, REF. Brophy. Pg. 265. However, the bolt does not retain the 22 firing pin or the copper coated spring that would be deemed correct for this conversion. The rifle comes with 2 Hoffer Thompson inserts, and a spare sight hood. CONDITION: Receiver retains 98% arsenal blue as does the bbl which has a bright, shiny bore. Front band is of the parkerized variety, and retains approx. 90% of the Parkerizing with a few minor rust spots. Middle band is blued and in excellent condition, retaining 90% of its finish. Trigger guard and the floorplate assembly retain 75% of its blue, and are begging to turn plum. Bolt assembly retains approx. 70% of its blue and is in good condition with the majority of the wear being on the bolt body. 1900-yd rear sight is excellent condition, retaining all of its finish as well dished knobs. 2-bolt buttstock with the “DAL” cartouche, is in outstanding condition with just a couple minor scratches. Proof mark is also very legible. Buttplate is finely checkered with trap, and a nickel oiler, in the buttstock. Edwards Collection 4-58514 BK37 (2,000-5,000)
