COLT MARTIALLY MARKED ARTILLERY SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. SN 6604. Blue & case colored with 5-1/2″ bbl, bull’s eye ejector rod head and 1-pc walnut grips. Left side of the frame has tiny 2-line patent address and small “U.S.” stamp. The bottom of the right grip has an “RAC” sub-inspector mark and bottom of the left grip has the “A” (O.W. Ainsworth) inspector mark, which also appears at the top of the back strap on the trigger guard and cylinder. The bbl appears to be original, but numbered “1366” with “RAC” sub-inspector marks. CONDITION: Fine, as previously noted. All numbers match except the bbl. Altogether a wonderful restoration done by a true professional and could easily fool all but the most expert. Bbl retains 96-98% strong bright blue slightly thinned at the muzzle, even having the brush marks on either side of the front sight. Bbl address is crisp and clear. Frame & hammer retain virtually all of their fine authentic looking case colors. Unfortunately the patent dates were re-rolled with a slightly too small die and the Serial Number stamped with a smaller sized die. Screws are all bright and clean retaining thin blue. Grip frame retains virtually all of its fine blue finish with a nick or two. Cylinder retains most of its fine blue finish with a light dragline. Grips are, or at least appear to be, original equipment with slightly chipped toes, a few dings on the bottom and some light handling marks and retain most of their original fine oil finish. Mechanics are crisp, bore is strong & bright with fine pitting. Would make a fine re-enactor’s piece, cowboy action shooter or would fill a hole in someone’s collection. 4-53580 JR968 (3,000-5,000)
