*TEXAS RANGER USED INSCRIBED COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY REVOLVER. Cal. 45 Colt. SN 348480. Blue and case colored with 5-1/2″ bbl, fixed sights and rampant Colt hard rubber grips. The bottom of the butt is inscribed “R.J.B. to Tom / 12-25-25”. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter identifying this revolver and indicating shipment to R.J. Brady, address unavailable, on December 7, 1925. This leads one to speculate that it was a Christmas present. This single action appears to have turned up in Florida and was obtained by the well known single action dealer, the late Ron Ogan, of Palm Beach. Mr. Ogan states in his list #17, item #1, that he purchased this revolver along with several other pieces at a local gun show and subsequently learned that it had Texas Ranger association. He states that on page 69 of The Texas Ranger Book, by Charles Schreiner III, is a picture of Tom Brady on horseback in 1924. At that time Tom Brady was a member of Capt. W.L. Wright’s Company D. He also states that he subsequently acquired the enlistment papers and oath of office for Brady. In another letter from Ogan, dated January 23, 1986, he reiterates the above information. Accompanied by the Colt Factory letter, as previously mentioned, a copy of Ogan’s list #17, Ogan’s 1986 letter, a copy of page 99 of an unknown book, chapter 18 titled “The Brady Brothers”. It pictures Sheriff Tom G. Brady and indicates he was born in the Fairview community, Wilson County, TX in 1901, joined the Texas Rangers in 1923 and served under Capt. W.L. Wright in Company D. It further states that in 1925 he entered the U.S. Mounted Customs Service and worked the Mexican Border in the South Texas brush country where he had many fights and battles. He was elected sheriff of Dimmit County at Carrizo Springs, TX. It states that he has arrested and jailed many desperate characters including the notorious Spence Edwards. Also included is a copy of pages from the book HORSEBACKERS OF THE BRUSH COUNTRY which on page 69 has a picture of Capt. Wright and six of his rangers including Tom Brady. Also included is a copy of Tom Brady’s Ranger Oath of Office and enlistment forms. CONDITION: Very fine plus, the bbl retains about 95% strong bright original blue.
