NICE COLLECTION OF THREE IMPORTANT MINIATURES OF THE NAPOLEON FAMILY ON IVORY, EARLY 19TH CENTURY. Each mounted in an ebonized frame with circular brass bezelled aperture containing the miniatures painted on ivory as follows: 1) Josephine Beauhornais Bonaparte born Josephine Tascher de la Pagerie. Married Napoleon in 1796 and divorced 13 years later. The subject modeled in a bejeweled crown and matching necklace, signed lr. “J. Isabey” artist to the Court of Napoleon. 2) Signed “J. Isabey”, artist to the Court of Napoleon. Painting on ivory of Napoleon I (1769-1821). 3) Signed ivory miniature of Napoleon II (1811-1832), named Napoleon Francis Joseph Charles Bonaparte, only son of Napoleon I, signed right side “J. Verniculen.” PROVENANCE: Purchased in France in 1928 by a professor at Amherst College, Amherst, Mass. to Mrs. Hevenor Wapping, Conn. to Mrs. H. B. DeWolf, Manchester, Conn. to the current New York owner. Each frame retains old label with history and provenance. SIZE: 2-1/4” dia portrait sight size.
