AN ORIGINAL PEN AND INK CARTOON DRAWING OF UNCLE SAM BY EDNA VALENTINE MINOR. Inscribed in lower right to Mrs. W. Bob Holland. Probably dates to around the turn of the century. A Thomas Nast-type figure. Uncle Sam stands resolutely before a door with name tag “W. J. Gaynor”. Obviously, a political cartoon of the period. The reverse of this original pen and ink has another partially drawn image. SIZE: 12” wide x 17-3/4” high, not including frame. CONDITION: Some surface abrasion scattered over the door and beneath Uncle Sam’s hat. It appears that the abrasion existed at the time that the artist completed the cartoon for publication, as Uncle Sam’s hat is painted through at least one portion of the surface abrasion. Also, a small 1-1/2” tear in the upper left-hand corner. 3-30449 (300-500)
