*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1901. Cal. 30. SN 11. This rifle is an experimental transition between the Krag and the 1903 Springfield. It retains the size of the Krag with the same basic sights with the receiver and the basic shape of the 1903 ramrod bayonet. There were very few of these guns produced as they were not issued to the troops, as they were for testing and evaluation. CONDITION: Bbl & receiver of this gun appear to have the finish wearing to a patina but somebody has some sort of coating on it, whether varnish or whatever, to keep it from getting any worse. Under the wood-line finish is significantly darker blue. Bbl bands are in fine shape with front one turning patina as the middle one retains more blue. Wood is in very fine condition with sharp finger grooves in the stock and nothing more than a couple of very minor scuff marks throughout the stock and hand guard. Buttplate is typical Krag and shows about 50% of the finish. Trigger guard and floorplate show about 80% of blue scattering to a grayish patina with some debris from the Krag type sling which is eroding gathering on it. Rear sight has virtually no finish as does the front sight. Ramrod bayonet is in fine condition, retaining almost all of its blue and functions flawlessly. Rifle is mechanically fine with an excellent bore. Edwards Collection 4-58510 BK34 (7,500-15,000)
