*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1899 KRAG CARBINE. Cal. 30. SN 355244. This is a nice example of a “1901” era built Krag Carbine with the shorter forearm & hand guard assembly. Rifle has a headless cocking piece on the bolt. It has the proper “1901” Carbine sights, front and rear. Gun is in excellent mechanical condition showing little use with a somewhat bright bore that is a little dark in the grooves, but overall a very nice example of this ’99 Krag. CONDITION: Receiver retains approx. 90% mottled glue to the receiver and side cover with the prominent wear being inside, along the extractor. Magazine cover retains approx. 80% of the orig finish. Bbl retains 80-85% of its orig blue, but shows some signs of having surface corrosion cleaned off of it at some point. Front & rear sights are in excellent condition retaining better than 90% of their finish. Bbl band retains approx. 80% of its finish, but is very pleasing. Trigger guard assembly retains better than 90% finish with a slight discoloration and some surface corrosion in the area of the front screw. Buttplate retains approx. 45-50% coverage, but has no signs of corrosion or rust on it. Buttstock is in excellent condition with fairly sharp finger grooves and a very legible “1901” dated cartouche and a very small number of “78” just in front of the buttplate tang. Stock has no significant scarring or marring, and the hand guard is in excellent condition with one very small dent approx. 2” in front of the receiver and 1/2” above the stock on the left hand side, but hardly noticeable upon inspection. Overall a very nice Krag Carbine. Edwards Collection 4-58509 BK43 (1,250-2,000)
