*SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1898 KRAG RIFLE. Cal. 30. SN 422422. This 1898/1903 Krag is towards the very end of production and is in exceptional condition seeing very little use throughout its life. It is 100% correct, including the sling and is very exceptional condition, just aside of being mint. CONDITION: Receiver retains 98% or better of a vivid mottling type case hardening, as does the side cover. Magazine retains approx. 90-95% of the same. Bolt assembly, thought containing dried grease, is in excellent condition as is the extractor that I’m sure a little oil would help bring out the nitride blue color in. Rear sight assembly (1901), is in excellent condition, retaining 95% of its orig finish. Bbl assembly retains 90% of its orig finish, though the exposed area on top is beginning to plum. Bbl assembly also has 1 small bright spot between the 2 bands obviously from being in a rack. Also a few very minor scratches toward the muzzle of the bbl Front bbl band assembly retains 90% of the blue and is beginning to plum. Middle band shows about new. Trigger housing has turned to plum. Buttstock assembly shows very good with a very prominent cartouche and proof mark, and very sharp finger grooves, although the front of the buttstock, just to the rear of the front band has seen some damage. Several fair size dents in the bottom of the buttstock just behind the front band, extending approx. 2 1/2”-3”. With the exception of that wood shows about new, the upper hand guard has one very small ding between the 2 rivets measuring approx. 1/8”-1/4”. Bore shows as new. Mechanics are excellent.
