WINCHESTER HOTCHKISS FIRST MODEL ARMY CARBINE. Cal. 45/70. SN 2705. 24” rnd bbl. Standard 3-line Winchester marking on left side of receiver. “U.S. / V / P / eagle head” on top of bbl at rear. “H.N.” inspector marks on bolt and bolt handle. No cartouche visible on wood. Nickel-plated trap at front of forearm covers two-piece cleaning rod, which is still present. Winchester furnished the action and buttplate; the rest of the parts were made at Springfield. Only 400 of these were made. CONDITION: About 1/2 the blue remains, mixed with surface rust and pitting. Bolt has been cleaned. Most of the nickel remains on the forearm tip. Mechanically good. Front sight blade has been replaced. Has usual cracks at wrist, and there is another crack at the forearm. Edwards Collection 4-58477 (1,000-2,000)
