*RARE COLT/SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1911 MILITARY PISTOL. Cal. 45 ACP. SN 125578. Usual configuration with 5″ bbl, blued finish with checkered large diamond walnut grips, a rampant Colt in a circle on the left rear of the slide, “United States Property” on the left forward part of the frame and the last patent date on the slide is “1911”. It has original early round top rear sight and thin front sight with all other early 1911 features. Also included is a 2-tone lanyard loop magazine. This pistol was one of a lot of twenty received at Springfield Armory from Colt June 1, 1912. They were sent as patterns or masters for Springfield to make sure that parts they produced were interchangeable with Colt. When production resumed at Springfield on July 1, 1916, these twenty pistols were apparently deemed no longer necessary to be maintained at Springfield so they were numbered in the Springfield series and are documented as serial numbers 125567 thru 125586. They were then shipped along with regular Springfield production pistols. Only one or two others from those twenty pistols have surfaced in the ensuing years. Accompanied by a copy of page 107 from what is believed to be the book THE GOVERNMENT MODELS, Meadows where under the title “Final Springfield Production”, the above information is laid out including the above serial number range. CONDITION: Extremely fine, overall retains 96-97% strong bright original blue with light muzzle and fine edge wear. The grips are sharp with a few chipped diamonds and show light wear. Mechanics are crisp, bright shiny bore. 4-52309 JR832 (6,000-10,000)
