JAMES HENRY BEARD (American, 1811-1893) POOR RELATIVE. Outstanding oil on canvas interior scene shows two well groomed high society dogs seated next to the evenings presentation of dinner which is housed in a fine silver covered entrée dish and goblet. A neglected black bony dog sits next to the offering puzzled. Behind is seen another dog with head raised with a pompous look. A colorful tile floor with gold flower decorated curtain behind. Signed lower right “Jas. H. Beard. N.A. 1879”. Housed in what appears to be its original gesso decorated and gold lined gilt frame. SIZE: 29” x 36”. CONDITION: Relined with some minor inpainting.
